THE ENCYCLOPEDIA
To find all of the information possible on the 7th art at
Cannes and your favorite films.
The Encyclopedia allows you to search for whatever
information you wish using several different criteria.
To begin a session, you need to first select your criteria,
then you launch your search. The information on each
film is extensive and variable and a simple search may
yield only a title or producer (particularly if you are
searching for short films), or it may give you a detailed
file with a full resume of the film including the most
important photos.
To Search, you have three options:
-Search by title and year
To enter the title and year, move the mouse to the
section you wish to search and click. Type either the
full title, or the first few letters. For best results do not
type articles like "the, a," etc.. You can also combine a
title search with a search by year.
-Search by Cast
Begin as if you were searching by title, but click in the
corresponding section. The search will work equally
well for actor, directors, producers, or other celebrities.
Using this option you can get a list of the works of a
particular person. and you can follow the styles of the
films associated with that person.
-Search by Country, Prize and Year
Click on the country and the prize you wish to search.
The up and down buttons allow you to scroll through
the list of available countries. If you do not wish to
search by prize, click on the "all films" option. You
can combine your search results with the year you wish
to search, also.
After you have made your search selections, hit return
or enter, or double-click on your selection.
The search can take several seconds to find the
information you have specified. The list of the films or
people will be displayed in a separate window. Select
the particular film or person you want from the list
displayed in this window.
If any photos are available, they will be displayed
automatically.
EXIT
To quit the CD-ROM, click on the Exit icon in the
bottom-left of the screen.
Saving and sending your photo album
The album is found in a small file that saves pointers to
the specific images. The file is called album.txt and it
can be found in the directory on your hard drive where
the main Cannes files were installed (normally this is
c:\cannes). You can copy the file to diskette and send it
to other people who have the Cannes CD-ROM.
To send it to us, attach it to an e-mail message and
transmit it to: album@filmfestivals.com.
